Tom Gierasimczuk

Publisher and General Manager, Vancouver Island 

Tom Gierasimczuk is the Publisher and GM of Overstory Media’s Vancouver Island operations. He is an award-winning journalist and media and marketing executive with a proven record of developing effective multi-platform, editorially driven marketing strategies that engage audiences and infuse brand communication with a sense of purpose and utility. Tom has built media properties for clients ranging from WestJet Airlines to Microsoft while working with leading communications companies including Rogers Communications, Canada Wide Media, and Transcontinental. His writing and insights have appeared in The New York Times, Entrepreneur, Marketing Magazine, The Globe and Mail, and many other media outlets.

Amelia Acedo

Originally from Mexico, Amelia is based in Victoria, BC and has a degree in Business Entrepreneurship, and a Public Relations and Social Media Marketing certificate. Amelia began her career in social media in 2015, when Tasting Victoria was launched as a social media community platform. Her professional passions are food, community and entrepreneurship, and the ways people build and promote their food businesses.

As the founder of Tasting Victoria, she spent years sharing food recommendations with locals as well as building a community on social media. When she’s not looking for new spots in town, you can find her baking, decorating a cake or hanging out with close friends. Amelia has shifted from social media manager to the publication’s editor, writing and reporting more in-depth about the local food scene and engaging with the community.

Ryan Hook

Ryan Hook is a journalist with a love of the strange and deranged. Originally from Edmonton, Ryan is now based in Esquimalt. He speaks English and graduated with a degree in Professional Communications from MacEwan University in 2019. From his time as an arts and culture reporter to his days as a health and wellness copywriter, Ryan has shifted his priorities the past year to begin reporting on the underserved and misreported. Since then, he has crafted a passion for reporting that’s landed him in publications such as VICE World News and Exclaim! Magazine. Beyond reporting, Ryan is also the lead singer/songwriter in his band, Baby Boy & the Earthly Delights, and is writing the first season of a children’s television show. Ryan is also a member of the Canadian Association of Journalists.
