7 kid-friendly Victoria restaurants the whole family can enjoy

Eating together as a family has been firmly established as a cultural ideal. Family meals provide the perfect opportunity to come together, strengthen ties, and build important relationships. It’s even proven to be good for your health! And there’s a few reasons why dining out in restaurants with your children is beneficial:

  • They can learn about different cultures through food

  • They can learn about making healthy choices

  • They can practice their table manners

  • They can sit and engage in conversation

  • They can learn to enjoy their food and not to rush when eating

Victoria has plenty of options for eating out with your entire family, so here are a few places we love.

Pagliacci’s

Pagliacci’s is one of those timeless places, born in passion, carved from life, and bathed in laughter. From the focaccia bread and soup to the Broadway-style cheesecake, every morsel is made on the spot. There are lots of delicious options for everyone in the family to try, all to be enjoyed amidst the kitchy décor and perhaps even some live music, making for lots of fun family conversation and memories.

Flying Otter Grill

Known as one of Victoria’s best-kept secrets, the Flying Otter Grill is a great venue for kids of all ages.  The kids have their own menu, offering favorites such as cod and chips, grilled cheese and fries, and chicken fingers. Located on the Harbour Air Seaplane docks, the atmosphere is relaxed and the views are incredible.

Frankie’s Modern Diner

Located in the heart of downtown Victoria, Frankie’s is near everywhere you want to be. At Frankie’s, everything is made from scratch—just like Frankie’s momma makes it! The whole family will love the gorgeous all-glass walk-in cooler full of cheesecakes, pies, and fresh produce. The kid’s menu has great options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and comes with a complimentary dessert. A fun contemporary take on a true retro diner experience.

Bin 4 Burger Lounge

Who doesn’t like a gourmet burger? Bin 4 Burger Lounge, with three locations in Victoria, is a definite favorite for families and has delicious burgers to suit every taste. Top off your burger with house-made aioli and side it with salad or house-spiced potato chips. Every month there is a featured burger as well as a featured appetizer and dessert. Wonderful food and friendly service are guaranteed to bring smiles to all members of your family.

Finns

Set in a beautiful 1882 heritage building and offering views of the stunning inner harbor and Parliament Buildings, Finns’ menus are more than just great seafood and steaks. Dishes are designed with the whole family in mind, offering a wide range of great casual choices such as potato chip and buttermilk fried chicken breast sandwiches, homemade flatbread pizza, prawn tacos, or the famous fish and chips with homemade tartar sauce.

Ithaka

Ithaka Greek Restaurant offers traditional and delectable Greek appetizers, platters, and desserts. A favorite destination of many locals, there is a children’s menu offering chicken souvlaki, pork souvlaki, chicken fingers, and spaghetti. Guests often ask “what does Ithaka mean?” Ithaka is an island off the west coast of Greece, and it’s the island that’s front and center in Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey. However, Ithaka to the Greeks essentially means: “Life is about the journey….not the destination”.

The Old Spaghetti Factory

This family favorite has a perfect location, just a two-minute walk from the vibrant inner harbour. See the sights and savor the spaghetti. “It’s all included” on the menu means a complete meal at one low price.   All of the entrees include Italian sourdough bread with whipped garlic butter, minestrone soup, or crisp green salad, and spumoni ice cream.
