Bonfires and S’mores! A Bilston Creek Farm experience with your “bubble”
When I first heard that Bilston Creek Lavender Farm was offering bonfires and s’mores, I wasted no time in checking out their website and phoning for more information. Once on the website, I was excited to think I could bring along my own bottle of bubbly, but after a phone call to inquire (followed by a long pause on the other end of the line) I quickly discovered that I had misread “bring your own bubble” and replaced it in my mind with “bring your own bubbly.” Needless to say, despite my initial misunderstanding, the novelty of a campfire, coupled with s’mores and hot chocolate, was enough to convince me to book a bonfire site for our bubble. So if you love campfires, s’mores, and lavender, this is an outdoor event for you!
Like me, you may feel that COVID and the inevitable restrictions seem never ending, so finding ways to bring joy and a change from the mundane have become challenging. It has been inspiring to see local businesses find new and innovative ideas that allow us to enjoy something different while adhering to protocols found in the public health guidelines. Outdoor activities tend to be considered safer than indoors, so these weekend bonfire events at Bilston Creek Farm are a great solution if you are feeling bored and restless at home.
Located in Metchosin, Bilston Creek Farm was successfully brought back to life from its 1851 historical roots and reinvented as a lavender farm. Originally farmed by the Witty family, this new venture was co-founded by Andrew Penn, Melanie Penn, and Ben Drury. In addition to enjoying your bonfire and s’mores, you can enjoy a stroll around the farm, explore some of its trails, and peruse an extensive variety of lavender products sold in the gift shop.
Book online to secure your bonfire site. Time slots for the bonfires are available on Saturdays and Sundays at the following times: 11am-12pm, 12:15-1pm, 1:30-2:30pm, and 2:45-4pm. Wooden benches are provided but you may wish to bring along your own blankets. Your booking includes your s’more kit and the tools you will need to toast them over your campfire. Hot chocolate, apple cider, and other treats can also be purchased from the outdoor orchard pub.
