After 22 years of serving as a cornerstone for cheese enthusiasts and food lovers in Victoria, Charelli's Cheese Shop & Delicatessen has announced it will be closing its doors on May 24. This popular shop in Oak Bay has been more than just a specialty food store; it has been a place locals love.

Founded in December 2003 by Carmen Lassooij, Charelli's began as a small shop, but despite its size, the shop quickly gained loyal customers for its extensive selection of fine cheeses, carrying between 250 to 350 varieties from around the world. Beyond cheese, Charelli's offers an array of specialty foods, including charcuterie, house-made spreads, olives, frozen meals, European pantry staples, chocolate, and more.

Over the years, Charelli's became an important part of the local community. The shop has been known for its warm, welcoming atmosphere, where staff took the time to know their customers, offering recommendations. The shop has reflected on this bond, stating on their Instagram post: "We’ve watched families grow, shared in your celebrations, and been part of your everyday moments."
