First Look: Beauregard Commons

What’s new, Beauregard?

The much-beloved community food hub, Beauregard Commons, has a new look and new owners. Staying true to founder Doug Mutch’s vision, Andrew and Vanessa Johnson of Bicycle Pizza have taken over the business and brought their own enthusiasm to the space. Their vision is to keep all elements of the retail business and restaurant that people love—and add more.

Andrew and Vanessa want to continue providing a supportive environment for artisan food producers in the commons kitchen and bring local products to the Brentwood Bay community. This level of support was offered when Bicycle Pizza first started last summer. Along with pizzas, at Beauregard you will find treats from places like The Bikery, Empire Donuts, Fox & Monocle Bakery, and WildFire Bread to complement great Drumroaster Coffee in the cafe. The retail area displays premium products produced by local artisans, including some made right in the Beauregard kitchen!

A community food hub, Beauregard Commons kitchen is home to local artisan producers:

  1. Bicycle Pizza: A crazy idea that quickly became a successful reality, Bicycle Pizza started at Beauregard with pop-up pizza nights and quickly spurred Victoria’s gourmet frozen pizza boom. The thin crust, handmade, gourmet pizzas are available at the cafe, or frozen at retailers around greater Victoria.

  1. Samosa Box: Made in small batches, these fresh samosas combine hand rolled flaky pastry with local ingredients and freshly roasted masalas for flavourful bake-at-home samosas. Made in the Beauregard kitchen, they are available in the retail shop or by special order.

  1. Umami Bomb: Born from a love of flavour and an experience at a Buddhist vegan restaurant in South Korea, Umami Bomb is a flavour-packed shiitake chili oil. It’s perfect to mix in with any dish—noodles, veggies, soups, or sandwiches—to add a little umami heat. Available at retailers or online

  1. Sidney Scones: Local market darling Sidney Scones drew long lines to their Sidney Market booth. Now they sell on their website with weekly pick ups at multiple points around Victoria. This year they’ve expanded further with a line of frozen bake-at-home scones, sold at retailers around Victoria.

  1. Two Crows Mustard – Made from Canadian-grown mustard seeds and Island-grown produce (honey, herbs, and brews), Two Crows Mustard offers uniquely flavoured gourmet spreads like their lavender mustard! Available at a few local shops, as well as online with free local delivery!

  1. Not food, but not to be missed, Spruce Clothing is connected to Commons and very much part of the Beauregard community. Up-cycled clothing, jewelry, and beautiful things to make you feel good, Andria’s shop is worth a visit.

Retail partners to highlight:

Pizza Pals:

In addition to Bicycle Pizza, you can find some excellent Pizzeria Prima Strada provisions in the Beauregard freezer, like their frozen meatballs with tomato sauce. The ever-popular Dumpling Drop sits beside two ice cream options in the freezers too! Hazel’s Ice Cream is an ice cream bar cart that sells chocolate-covered treats at select retailers in the winter. 49 Below Ice Cream, ice cream sandwiches are available, and their monthly ice cream subscription now has a pick-up location at Beauregard Commons. Not too far from her own restaurant on Keating, Adriana’s The Whole Enchilada chips and frozen meals are on the shelf, joined by MAiiZ Nixtamal’s corn tortillas and frozen hominy corn.

As well as providing excellent toppings for pizza, Foragers Galley, Blackrose Farm, and Haus Sausage Co all have their products available. This is all part of what makes Beauregard Commons so special! The marriage of production, restaurant and a community-sourced retail store equals a special space that brings people together.

With an ever-growing stock of provisions, it’s the upcoming place to shop, eat, connect, and recharge in Brentwood. Along with great food, delicious treats, and warm hospitality, Beauregard Commons is home.
