Greece has produced some of the best dishes in the world—moussaka, souvlaki, dolmades, keftethes, and so much more. Honestly, there’s so much it’s hard to keep up; but thankfully, you’ll have two weekends to indulge.
The annual GreekFest kicks off this weekend, Aug. 25-27, and wraps up Sept. 1-4. From 11:30am to 8pm, check out GreekFest at 4648 Elk Lake Dr., next to Commonwealth Place in Saanich.
The event features Greek cuisine, dances, and vendors and is intended to serve as a “gateway to Greece's rich heritage, showcasing the country's traditions and customs,” according to its website.
The event promises to serve traditional Greek dishes such as lamb on the spit, souvlaki, spanakopita, loukoumades, and baklava—and likely, some food you’ve never tried but need to.
While you fill up on food, traditional dances and performances will take place throughout the weekend, from the energetic Pentozalis to the lively Syrtaki. Visitors will also be treated to performances from Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, Eastern European, and Balkan traditions.
Check out GreekFest’s menu here, and see the schedule of performances throughout the next two weekends here.
