Lighthouse Block Party celebrates 25 years of beer this Saturday

Entry is free, the beer and food is delicious, and the tunes are '90s

If Lighthouse Brewing suddenly has an ugly haircut this Saturday, don’t worry, it’s the telltale sign of turning 25.

This Saturday, Aug. 19, the brewery will welcome people of all ages to 836 Devonshire Rd. in Esquimalt from 3 to 9 pm for an afternoon and evening of ’90s tunes, tasty food and, of course, a sampling of new and fan-favourite Lighthouse brews.

Food vendors include The Missing Link, Los Panas Kitchen, and Hazel’s Ice Cream; and ’90s tunes will be dished out by DJ Bellyfish. Admission to the party is free, and all ages are welcome.

Started in the summer of 1998, Lighthouse is one of BC’s longest-operating craft breweries—at the time, only 20 craft breweries were operating in the province.

The first taste of success came immediately with its Race Rocks Amber Ale, back when the team was small and they would roll out kegs to local pubs throughout Greater Victoria. Its next milestone came in 2004, when the brewery scaled up and started packaging its products. Since then, Lighthouse has never looked back, and has established itself as one of Victoria’s premiere craft breweries, always experimenting with new flavours (like the Nightwatch coffee lager).

Not only has Lighthouse been a bastion for beer and culture, but it's also committed to sustainability. According to its website, all of its solid waste from the brewing process goes to local farmers and is used as feed supplement for chickens, pigs, and dairy cattle.

“From beers at the beach fire or ski lodge to weddings and festivals, we have truly relished the opportunities to be along for the ride with you at so many of life’s moments,” the company said in a news release.

“We wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for the support of all our customers and fans, our dedicated employees present and past, and all of our friends and families. So, to all of you who have ever had a Lighthouse beer, thank you very much—we couldn’t have done it without you.”

Cheers to 25 years!
