New Haus on the block
There’s a new haus on the block! Eva Schnitzelhaus opened its doors in the heart of downtown Victoria, taking over the Rain Dogs location on Fisgard Street. This open space has been transformed into an après ski chalet-style restaurant by a skilled team who all have roots in the award-winning Agrius Restaurant. Executive chef and CEO Maxime Durand, along with sous chef Émile Hudon-Donne, created a playful menu with their own twists on German, Swiss, and Austrian classics.
Jagerschnitzel
The menu centers around a range of schnitzels. If you are unfamiliar with this European staple, it is a slice of light meat that has been thinned by pounding with a tenderizer before being coated in breadcrumbs and fried. Each schnitzel variation is accompanied by sides: braised endive, sauerkraut, roesti (think hash brown), and spaetzle (small egg noodles), just to name a few.
Schweineschnitzel
Haus-made pretzels, potato, and raclette, beets, and bratwurst are other menu highlights. Ingredients are sourced from local producers wherever possible, like Stillmeadow Farm, and Square Root Farm.
Beets & Sour Cream
Not to be overshadowed by delicious food, the beer list has been carefully curated to feature a wide variety of German beers like Ayinger Oktober Fest-Märzen, Weihenstephaner Hefe Weissbier, Bitburger Premium Pilsner, and Radeberger Pilsner. Island darlings Averill Creek Vineyard, Emandare Vineyard, and Rathjen Cellars are featured on a diverse list that offers an eclectic mix of old—and new—world varieties. Front-of-house managers Cole Vetor and Kaylund Mons create a warm lively atmosphere for diners, bringing their expertise from time spent at Libretto and Bauhaus.
With a creative team of culinary experts at the helm, this will be an exciting spot to gather over a stein… or two!
