Now Open in Oak Bay: Liv Café and Bistro, a new spot for fresh, seasonal fare

Helmed by Fire Masters finalist Chef Milton Rebello and ceramic artist-chef Louise Lu, Liv Café and Bistro is a cozy addition to Oak Bay, offering globally inspired dishes focusing on freshness, simplicity, and seasonality. Currently open Wednesday to Sunday from 9am to 2pm, the café offers pastries and an extensive lunch menu on weekdays, as well as a fun, exciting brunch menu on weekends.

In just its second week, Liv Café and Bistro is already drawing locals into its bright, welcoming space. The team just received its liquor license and soon will be offering a refreshing lineup of brunch-concentrated summer drinks, including house-made craft sodas, mimosas, spritzers, ciders, and craft beers.

So, why Oak Bay? “We always wanted to own and operate a neighbourhood bistro,” the Rebello shared with Tasting Victoria. “A place close to the ocean, with lots of walking traffic—where both patrons and staff can either walk or cycle to our restaurant”. 

Chef Milton Rebello brings an extraordinary culinary background, having lived and worked in 10 countries before settling in Canada. His resume spans Fairmont Hotels, the Carnival Cruise Line, New York Times four-star restaurants, and even the royal service team for Saudi Arabian Airlines. He holds the prestigious Canadian Certified Chef de Cuisine designation and is a two-time Gold Medal Plates winner.

Alongside him is Louise Lu, a chef and ceramic artist whose creative touch adds an artisanal dimension to both the food and the ambiance. Together, they’ve created a menu that celebrates the flavours they’ve experienced across the globe, from their travels to the places they've called home. Many ingredients come directly from their little farm in Saanich, including vegetables, herbs, and edible flowers.
