Just when you thought Victoria’s brunch options had topped off, a Canadian brunch chain is getting closer to opening up shop on Yates Street.

OEB Breakfast Co., the Calgary-based breakfast chain, will open a spot in Victoria at 856 Yates St.

There’s no clue as to when OEB on Yates will open—though, its website says soon and the windows at 856 Yates St. now bolster OEB graphics and photos, giving people a taste for what’s on the horizon.

OEB is known for its unique spin on brunch food—like breakfast poutines and lobster crêpes—and its foundation as a company was built by sourcing locally, farm to table. From Korean bulgogi and truffled squash eggs benedicts to pierogies and duck and gnocchi breakfast carbonara, OEB brings fresh, unique, and different flavours to the brunch scene in Victoria.

It also bolsters a great drink menu, featuring smoothies, specialty coffees, and classic cocktails with a twist, like beermosas and sangria.

According to its website, OEB’s executive chef and founder, Mauro Martina, is a classically trained chef originally from Italy. He moved to Canada in 1992 at age 21, climbing the ranks in the kitchen until finally opening OEB in Calgary in 2009.

Since then, OEB has opened 18 locations, with Victoria claiming the 19th spot.

It's bound to be good competition for Victoria brunch institutions like Jam Café, Floyds, and the Ruby, and hopefully, will help calm down some of those big lines.
