After a nearly three month hiatus, Saint Franks, an in-vogue hot dog bar, will reopen this Friday, August 11 at 727 Yates St.

According to its Instagram, Saint Franks will return to its glory by basically replicating the décor at its former location on Broad Street—exposed brick, old school video games, in-house barber shop, and all.

For eight years, the popular hot dog joint operated out of the historic Duck’s Building before getting the boot, along with several other businesses, to make way for an incoming hotel.

Saint Franks was started in 2015 by Jay Pincombe, who started Wheelies, and Matty Conrad, the owner of Victory Barber. At the time, Eat Magazine said Saint Franks was the centre for Victoria’s “meta-hipster insanity.”

It’s a welcome homecoming for one of Victoria’s few late night food options, but it didn’t materialize without some hiccups. Earlier this month, the bar’s owners petitioned council to extend its hours an hour later than what the lease allowed.

Letters explaining the application were sent to 869 neighbouring residents and business owners. Of the 33 letters received in return, 28 were supportive of the 2am closing time and five were opposed.

Councillors noted local business owners, residents, and Victoria Police had no concerns about the bar staying open the extra hour, noting Saint Franks has been operating “for eight years with no issues.”

Council unanimously approved allowing Saint Franks to remain open nightly until 2am.

Welcome back, Saint Franks.
