The popular cafe and bar—which had a food menu focused on healthy, fresh, and local ingredients—announced on social media that its last day will be Friday, Sept. 29.
According to owner Shane Devereaux, Sherwood has been sold.
“It's been quite the journey the last 5 years. Opening an all day cafe & bar was something that I always wanted to do and felt our city deserved. I still feel that way and I’m so incredibly proud of everything that we’ve done,” Devereaux wrote.
Sherwood opened in 2018 with the intention of creating an elevated day-to-night hospitality service akin to cafes found in Europe or Australia. For a while, Sherwood accomplished that. From morning to midnight, you could find a range of options, from coffee to cocktails, to brunch and late night food.
Unfortunately, earlier this year, Sherwood cut back its hours, and cut out its dinner service entirely. Devereaux cited three years of the pandemic, and hospitality industry challenges writ large, as to the reason why.
Now, that popular cafe has been sold, Tasting Victoria has reached out to Devereaux for clarity on who the space has been sold to, and will update this when available.
If you want to support Devereaux, he continues to operate Habit Coffee at Yates Street’s Atrium building in the 500-block of Pandora Avenue.
