Striking the balance between restaurant quality and comfort of a home cooked meal
Haus Sausage Co. launched their Sunday Dinners initiative in early 2021 with a simple yet very well received bbq chicken dinner. While this remains in the rotation and continues to be a fan favourite, it is just one from a selection of different themed dinners you can find popping up about once a month on their social media feeds. While the team’s day to day usually focuses around the tasks of a butcher shop, many on their team started their careers in a more traditional restaurant setting. This is an outlet for them to stretch those cooking muscles.
What is it though?
The concept is easy to get your head around—a great meal intended to be taken home that is easily reheated and served. Take the aforementioned meal for example, where the coffee rubbed bbq chicken comes hot and fresh out of the smoker right before pickup. Beside it comes garlic mashed potatoes, coleslaw, country gravy, thyme buttermilk biscuits, and a dessert. Within 30 minutes to an hour of bringing it home, you can have a great family-sized meal ready, carrying the flavour and technique you’d expect from a restaurant while in the comfort of your home, and at a price that won’t break the bank. The standards for ingredient sourcing remain similar to that of their usual offerings in the shop: the protein will always be coming from close to home and a local/organic vegetable will make an appearance on the plate.
Keep an eye out in the coming weeks where they will surely be setting up for a Christmas-themed dinner!
