A beloved Victoria restaurant is opening a pop-up this summer

Wine, cocktails and 'uncommonly' good small plates

Starting this upcoming Monday, June 3, Victoria’s beloved Ugly Duckling Dining & Provisions is launching a brand new pop-up shop and pilot project: Cold Tea Social Club.

Hosted by one of the city’s most unique fine dining restaurants known for their emphasis on creative expression, Cold Tea Social Club will be a space for more street-food like, handheld versions of Ugly Duckling meals—picture bao buns stuffed with seared foie gras and Asian pear, Taiwanese popcorn chicken, cold-tea fried rice and wide noodles with black garlic and shiitake bolognese.

Drinks, or more accurately referred to as “libations” on the recently teased pop-up menu, look just as enticing as the food. A bright gin cocktail named “Pulp Fiction” is packed with sweet citrus flavours using ingredients like red miso, mandarin and Esquimalt bitter oranges while on the opposite end of the spectrum sits the “Shanghai Shaft”, a concoction of coffee liqueur, shaojiu and horchata foam.

Not to mention a full wine list available upon request, featuring both global and local grapes for perfect pairings with each small plate.

“What, you may be asking, is Cold Tea Social Club?” the restaurant noted on one of their latest Instagram posts. “You can think of it as a pop-up with a fixed address; or as Ugly Duckling on a Casual Friday. Will there be delicious cocktails and wine? Of course. Uncommonly good small plates? Absolutely. Familiar favourites? Naturally. Brand-new experiences? …you get it.”

“More than anything, Cold Tea will be a fun new way for us to share what we do with more of our friends and neighbours. It will be the first time ever to experience some of what we do a-la-carte; and, we hope, an experience that you’ll enjoy a whole lot.”

Needless to say, we can’t wait to spot by—starting next Monday, Cold Tea Social Club will be open every Monday and Tuesday all summer from 5pm to 10pm on Victoria’s Fisgard Street, in the heart of Chinatown.

Be sure to follow the restaurant’s Instagram profile as well as their newest page for Cold Tea Social Club to get the latest updates!
