Visit the Floating Fish Store at Fisherman’s Wharf this summer

This summer The Floating Fish Store at Fisherman’s Wharf is back in Victoria selling fresh seafood and local beers for a true taste of Victoria.

The Floating Fish Store restaurant and fishmonger is North America’s first 100% Oceanwise seafood store and restaurant, meaning that their seafood supports healthy oceans as they make sustainable seafood purchasing decisions. This eatery is a licensed processing plant that buys its fish and shellfish directly from the people who go out and catch them. The catch is processed right on the premises. Serving fresh and sustainably sourced fish on the ocean with a glass of cold beer brings summer in Victoria to a salty sun-sation.

We’ve tried out a variety of different fish options and many of the bestsellers on their fishy menu including the local special, oysters, and the unique wrapped-up fish options. The three way salmon chowder is one of their bestsellers which incorporates local salmon fillet, smoked salmon, and candied salmon in a creamy broth along with onion, potato, and corn, available in three sizes to enjoy as a side or a full meal with focaccia bread. This is one of our favourite dishes, as it’s flavourful from the candied salmon mixed into the other salmon variations adding a sweet kick.

The premium oysters were salty and refreshing which is great for a group as it can be ordered as half a dozen or a full dozen and comes with your choice of sauce from their 8 unique options. Choosing from one of the six fry bar options we chose Pacific Cod, which can be ordered as one or two pieces and includes freshly cut french fries, slaw, and creamy homemade tartar.

The fish tacos can be served as singles or doubles and you can choose from six seafood options inside of a soft corn tortilla topped with house-smoked tomato salsa, cabbage, citrus cream, and fresh cilantro and lime. The rice wraps include three choices of protein options including a vegetarian option with edamame beans wrapped up with warm sushi rice, sesame seeds, peppers, and pea shoots inside a flour tortilla. Their fishwiches come with six different fish options as well, inside a freshly baked bun alongside their secret sandwich sauce, lettuce, tomato, and pickles.

There’s a seafood feast in every one of the seafood specials. The specials are prepared from Victoria’s local species — caught in season, including spot prawns and Dungeness crab.

Floating Fish Store serves seafood that comes fresh off the boat, whether you’re looking for soups or salads or their wraps like fish tacos, rice wraps, and fishwiches. The local experience doesn’t stop there, either. The floating fish store serves local beers brewed right in Victoria including Hoyne, Philips, and Driftwood. If you’re coming for their famous fish and chips or want to taste more of the exotic flavours of the sea, try the oysters and other steam bar options from BC beaches, such as Bayne Sound clams, Cortes Island mussels, Discovery Island scallops, and local Dungeness crab. Their menu offers gluten-free and vegetarian options, including edamame rice wrap and any of their salads.

The Floating Fish Store in Fisherman’s Wharf is one of the most authentic tastes of Victoria. Enjoy your meal from the ocean at the ocean, any day of the week from 11:30pm to 7pm.

Pro tip: Oysters are 25% off from 4pm to 5pm.
