A year of firsts for Victoria Beer Week
New dates, new venues, new events, same delicious craft beer
The Victoria Beer Society is ready to announce their first event of the season, the ninth edition of Victoria Beer Week: a series of seven enticing craft beer-focused events from May 5 to 13, 2023 with tickets on sale now. This is the first time Victoria Beer Week will be held in May, trading chilly March for a warmer month that will allow for some spectacular outdoor event settings.
The kick-off to Victoria Beer Week, Lift Off, will take place Friday, May 5 at historic Market Square. This space-themed event held in the outdoor inner courtyard space at Market Square will launch over a dozen brand new beers and include music, food, and games. This fan favourite launch event is known to sell out.
And to close, in continuing with VBS’s tradition of debuting unique and interesting spaces in Victoria, Touchdown will be the first to be held in the newly renovated Victoria Press Building, previously the home of the Times Colonist newspaper, on Saturday, May 13. Touchdown will also feature another first for Victoria Beer Week: Seltzers and RTDs from BC breweries will be served alongside beer and ciders, with food trucks and live music to be announced soon.
Each event during Victoria Beer Week has a theme, featuring either a niche style of beer, a dress-up prompt, or a food focus. Lift Off and Touchdown, are space-themed with guests encouraged to dress up in intergalactic finery to win prizes. Sour Power is a ‘70s-themed disco party with another opportunity to get funky with their fits and sip on sours, goses, and juicy pale ales. Down Unda is a love letter to New Zealand-style pilsners and Australian hops — with Salt Chuck in attendance providing hot, savoury meat pies. And Dubbel Down is a night of Belgian-inspired beers and cuisine at the iconic Victoria Public Market.
