Victoria’s 49 Below Craft Ice Cream opens its first storefront

Get your tastebuds ready for the first brick-and-mortar location for Victoria’s beloved 49 Below Craft Ice Cream. This local gem is bringing its most creative flavours yet, including rotating flavours like Cinnamon Crunch, Hawkins Cheezies, Vietnamese Coffee, and Honeycomb. 49 Below has partnered with local businesses for its ice cream flavour pairings, including 2% Jazz Coffee for affogatos and Spinnakers Soda for ice cream floats! Your new favourite ice cream hub will also include local love from Westholme Tea Company, Working Culture Bread pastries, and future pop-ups coming this fall!

“I have so many happy childhood memories that centre around ice cream. I can’t wait for families to make their memories at our store,” Elder says.

The Team: Jason, Amy, and Dan.

49 Below Craft Ice Cream was founded in 2015 when owner Dan Edler was on paternity leave and decided he wanted to spend even more time with his kids. With the support of his wife, Erin, and his passion for creating unparalleled ice cream flavours in his garage, he left job opportunities in biology in order to keep the cream coming. Eventually, 49 Below Ice Cream hit the freezer aisle in over 20 local stores, made it to menus at local cafes and restaurants, and began delivering to doorsteps for “pint club” monthly subscriptions.

The company’s flavours are home to Victoria—Elder collaborates with local businesses on flavours like Dumpling Drop Thai Ice Tea, Root Cellar Green Sauce, and Phillips Chocolate Porter. The company has created over 100 flavours.

49 Below Ice Cream is ready for the people of Victoria to enjoy its collaborative, mouth-watering ice cream at its new storefront opening Friday, Aug. 12.
