Victoria’s best veggie burgers
We all love a great burger, don’t we? These days vegetarian and vegan burgers are everywhere you look, and there are plenty of creative options to choose from. Veggie burgers have certainly come a long way from portobello mushroom caps on a bun. Whether you’re on the hunt for a quick plant-based lunch, junky pub grub, or late-night eats, we’ve got you 100% covered.
Read on to find out where to try the best veggie burgers in Victoria:
Burger Crush
Burger Crush can be described in one word: nostalgic. It’s a classic California-style burger and fries joint with a short-but-simple menu done right. It’s the closest thing Victoria has to In N’ Out, and some would say they crush it! Try the house-made vegan cheese burger (make it a double if you’re starving) and the crush fries (topped with special sauce and caramelized onions). If you want to go all out, why not add a thick vegan milkshake made from house-made, dairy-free ice cream? Oh, and don’t forget the tofu nuggets. Available for takeout at both the restaurant and food truck locations.

Deadbeetz Burgers
This funky burger joint is the perfect spot to grab a tasty home-cooked burger for lunch. We love them for their Fresh Prince of Bel-Air style street art décor and their friendly service. They have great plant-based options, such as the Cashew Chickpea or the Quinoa Queen burger (with vegan cheddar cheese slices optional). They also serve homemade vegan mayo, pickled beets, and roasted beetroot chips. Keep an eye on their Instagram page for other tasty features. If you visit the Oak Bay location, why not make it a Willows Beach picnic?

Leopold’s Tavern
There’s a new pub in town and the good news is that it’s very vegan-friendly. If you like trendy (faux) dive bars with alternative décor, then Leo’s is the place for you. Aside from killer vegan nachos and quesadillas, they also serve the Impossible burger with Nabati cheese, curly fries, and giant onion rings. Enjoy their delicious burger with a beer or a classic lime margarita on a hot day. Leo’s is open for indoor and patio dining. Takeout or delivery through Uber Eats is also available.

Fern Café and Bakery
Well, I have said it before and will say it again, Fern Café and Bakery has been serving up some of the best vegan comfort food on the Island for a couple of years now. Among many other things, they serve legendary plant-based burgers with vegan mayo, homemade cheddar and Daiya mozzarella. To spice up your life, try their Fire Burger (complete with jalapenos and hot sauce). Best served with a side poutine or a Caesar salad and a Big Bad Cinnamon Bun for dessert. Available for takeout or delivery on UberEats.

Earls
You already know Earls for their great happy hour prices, cocktails, and speedy service. Many will be also delighted to hear that Earls now has an extensive plant-based menu, including tofu Zen bowls and more. And of course, every good pub needs a solid veggie burger option. For our plant-based pals, Earls serves up the super popular Impossible burger. Add an Aperol Spritz and you’ve got yourself a delightful evening planned. Indoor and outdoor dining available. You can also order delivery through Skip the Dishes. Get 15% off if you order takeout through the Earls website.

The Pink Bicycle
It’s no surprise Victoria’s first gourmet burger joint has an array of tasty vegetarian and vegan options to choose from. Aside from their Moroccan veggie burger and black bean burger, they also offer the Beyond burger with plenty of fun added toppings to choose from. If you’re feeling adventurous, why not try the grilled pineapple or caramelized onions? Enjoy with a side of truffle fries or a vegan poutine with garlic mushroom gravy. Available for indoor and outdoor dining, takeout, or delivery on Tutti (and other delivery apps).

Very Good Butchers
Naturally, it goes without saying that Very Good Butchers has some of the best veggie burgers in town. After all, “butchering beans” is what they do! Our local vegan butcher now offers plant-based meats in grocery stores Canada-wide, and the restaurant is still going strong. If you have a very big appetite, try the Very Big Mac: two house-made bean patties, cheeze, special sauce, pickle, onion, and lettuce. Best enjoyed with a side of vegan mac n’ cheese for good measure. Available for delivery on UberEats.
