There are many burgers worth trying in Victoria, and the variety is endless. When it comes to burgers, why stick to beef? We put together a list of the best and most unique burgers, and our readers helped us through their votes in the 2022 Tasting Victoria Best Restaurant Awards, presented by Portofino Bakery. The winners in the Best Burger category, sponsored by Category 12 Brewing, were Bin 4 Burger Lounge, Big Wheel Burger, and Pink Bicycle (now closed). Keep reading to learn more about our readers’ Top 3, and some other unique burgers you have to try at least once.
Bin 4 Burger Lounge – My Big Fat Greek Burger
Who says all burgers have to be beef? While this local restaurant offers an entire menu of unique burgers to try, if you’re in the mood for something a little different (you had us at tapenade), this Greek-style lamb burger made with oregano yogurt, goat cheese, and roasted garlic aioli is a definite must when you visit.

Big Wheel Burger – Nashville Hawt Chickpea Burger
Looking for a vegetarian burger with a kick? Big Wheel Burger’s Nashville Hawt Chickpea Burger features a made-in-house plant-based option with a chickpea, white and wild rice, and potato patty with chipotle aioli. Whether you’re a vegetarian or not, this is a burger that everyone can agree is flaming good.

DeadBeetz is already known for thinking outside the box when it comes to its burgers, but the Quinoa Queen is our pick for a unique vegan delight. Most vegetarian patties tend to be made with beans, but DeadBeetz’s choice to use quinoa provides another alternative with a great texture that doesn’t fall apart. Pro tip: add beets. You can find DeadBeetz at 1950 Oak Bay Ave., or find its food truck at events around town.

Sherwood Restaurant – Gochujang Chicken Sandwich
Although this is technically called a sandwich, we think it might be one of the best burger-adjacent sandwiches in town. Juicy fried Farmcrest chicken thigh, with fermented chili honey mustard, kimchi slaw, and aioli in a toasted Bond Bond’s brioche. A super filling meal that we are pretty sure you’ll love.

Chorizo and Co. – Hamburguesa de la casa
Chorizo and Co is a local Spanish restaurant serving a variety of tapas, but to us, the star of the show is their Hamburguesa de la casa: beef and pork patty, fried egg, chorizo, piquillo aioli, Cabra Romero cheese, greens, tomato, and pickles. Definitely a burger you will not want to share!

Ferris Grill – Oyster burger
A classic restaurant in Victoria since 1991, well-known for its amazing seafood dishes. A burger you don’t want to miss when in Victoria is the Oyster burger: panko-breaded Baynes sound oysters with cheddar, green onion, and ginger mayo, served on a brioche bun.

Honourable mention
Brasserie L’Ecole – Brasserie Burger
Definitely a local classic, the Brasserie burger is made to order with Canadian beef, bacon, swiss cheese, and grain mustard aioli, and it comes with delicious fries. Pro tip: sub your fries for the “fancy frites,” as they say, with parmesan, garlic, parsley, and truffle oil.
