If you’re eager to explore Victoria’s hyper local food scene, spark lively conversations with famers and surround yourself with passionate foodies, clear your calendar for Saanich’s very first Flavour Trail.

Taking place next weekend from July 6 to 7, the Savour Saanich Flavour Trails are a series of trail stops that allow visitors to learn more about food production on the Island, purchase from a variety of unique vendors and bask in Saanich’s beautiful landscape. More than just a foodie experience, the Flavour Trails provide a special opportunity for residents to connect to local farmers, growers and food makers, igniting a community-wide learning of food producers in the region.

From farms to distilleries, the self-guided tour is comprised of nine trail stops with tours around community gardens, flower farms and multiple tastings and demonstrations along the way.

The vendors you can expect to find on the July 6 trail include Country Bee Honey Farm, Junction Orchard & Cidery, Oceanview Estates, Sunwing Greenhouse, Pasture Perfect Lamb & Country Wool, South Island Farm Hub and handmade tacos at Food on the Run. Find the full list of vendors and the complete trail map here.

On July 7, participants can take part in the Flavour Trail market at Saanich’s 57th annual Strawberry Festival at Beaver Beach in Elk Lake Provincial Park. Roam around the Savour Saanich Farmers Market, embark on a zucchini race or choose among a variety of other engaging, family-friendly activities like floral bouquet designing and cupcake decorating (not to mention, enjoy eating handfuls of strawberries and other fresh fruit at the peak of the season).

Whatever your main points of interest may be along the way, participating in the Flavour Trails this year is a cool opportunity to connect with Saanich’s unique food community, cultivate relationships with farmers, deepen your understanding of the region’s local food economy and, lastly, eat some of the freshest, most wholesome food Saanich has to offer.

You can find more information about the Savour Saanich Flavour Trails and upcoming Flavour Trail events on their website.
