Fall is officially here, and though we will miss the hot weather, there’s plenty to enjoy this season in the Westshore, including the food! While downtown Victoria has very good and well-known restaurants, head a little west to the Westshore and you’ll find some great spots to try.

This elegant restaurant with views of the Olympic View Golf Club in Colwood is a hidden gem to many. Table Nineteen is a great setting for special occasions or even date night on Tuesdays when they run a special. The restaurant’s menu features casual plates, appetizers to share, a kids’ menu, and a big cocktail and wine selection. The restaurant also has friendly service and a welcoming atmosphere. It is open for lunch and dinner daily.

Although not a restaurant, Bilston Creek Farm hosts many events throughout the year. Glenrosa Farm will be hosting a pizza pop-up this Sunday and some weekends in October for Halloween. Chef David Tozer, who has honed his artisanal pizza craft for over a decade, will be using Bilston Creek Farm’s custom built outdoor wood fired pizza oven to make Napoletana-style pizza. You can pre-order pizzas through Bilston Creek Farm’s website.

Aside from these pop-ups, the farm has fire pits you can book and they provide a well-stocked fire, roasting sticks, and a complimentary classic s’mores kit. Each one-hour booking includes a private tent with a fire pit and space for up to six guests. Hot dog kits with condiments for fire roasting are available for purchase in the store, beef and vegetarian.

House of Boateng in Langford serves brunch dishes with a West African and Caribbean twist, led by renowned chef Castro Boateng. The menu is a fusion of international flavours with local ingredients, offering dishes like sweet yam bennies, fried plantains, and huevos rancheros, making their dishes very unique and different from what we are used to in the Victoria food scene. They offer vegan and gluten-free options.

The space is not too big but it can accommodate big groups and the wait for a table is not too long. The atmosphere is welcoming and the service is great.

Rhino Coffee House has two locations in the Westshore. The coffee house is welcoming, with a lounge atmosphere, filled with locals enjoying meals, sipping coffees, and typing away on laptops. Both the coffee and food at Rhino have been garnering praise since opening. The coffee is freshly roasted and delivered regularly from Tofino, and all the food and donuts are made in house daily. For coffee, the dark roast bean is a favourite of many, and if you are looking for something different, the matcha chai latte is a great option. And when it comes to food, the maple bacon donut or the apple fritter are great, and the famous “Bronut” breakfast sandwich for breakfast or lunch is a favourite.
